Sneak preview of FilmNorth’s new media center February 11th

Minnesota Media Arts attended FilmNorth’s sneak preview open house February 11th. It was a great success with standing room only. Media Makers and Community members had a chance to tour the new building under construction and see architectural renderings of the future spaces being built now for this state-of-the-art media center and film theater.

FilmNorth Executive Director Andrew Peterson gave us an introduction to the building project and told us what is up ahead for Film North and their new building. On hand to celebrate were the Minnesota Legislators who helped get support passed for this new media facility. Guest speakers were Senate Majority Leader Erin P. Murphy, Representative Leigh Finke, Senator Clare Oumou Verbeten, and Senator Sandra L. Pappas.

Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy expressed her support in helping make FilmNorth as great community asset: Senator Murphy reminded us all that “leading through fraught times is not a job for me or my elected colleagues, it is a job for all of us. And the work that you do to tell a story, to help shape contextually what we're experiencing, where we have been, what is the story of this nation. What is the truth of the story of this nation? Where are we headed to? And what are we doing together? That is the work of artists. That is what normalizes and humanizes and really brings to life our history, our present and our future… Art is such an important part of our lives. How we find comfort, how we expand our minds and how we recognize one another's humanity... let's look out for each other, right now, through this fraught time.

Minnesota Media Arts is excited about the new community facilities and the great opportunities in education, training, and media production that this new media center brings all together in one place. We are looking forward to the locally produced  independent programs that will be shown in the new digital theater for our community.

FilmNorth’s mission is to empower artists to tell their stories, launch and sustain successful careers, and advance The North as a leader in the national network of independent filmmakers.
