How do you preserve over thirty five years of video media programs about important Minnesota labor education history? You go to the pros at Minnesota Media Arts for assistance!

Minnesota Media Arts was awarded a 2023 media consulting and conversion contract by the Legal Education Service, Center for Human Resources and Labor Studies at the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota. Labor Education Service (LES) is the primary educational outreach component of the Land Grant University of Minnesota serving working men and women of the state and region in the areas of labor relations and labor studies.

By joining MNMA, as an organization member, LES secured additional member discounts for consulting and conversion services to prep, digitize and preserve over 130 media assets recorded on 8mm film, EIAJ 1/2" open reel, ¾” U-matic videocassette, VHS, SVHS, Betacam and DV-CAM. Video program preservation includes the Minnesota at Work series, events, interviews and union conventions. The overall LES Media Collection totals over 500 programs.

Mark Stanley, John See and Ron McCoy
We selected MNMA for their consulting and comprehensive media conversion expertise. Mark Stanley and Ron McCoy really understood the process of stabilizing and preserving our legacy programs to archive quality digital media files.  MNMA’s “members tool kit” also included a great online visual inventory spreadsheet that we used to track the conversion process. Thanks to Mark and Ron for the great experience!"  John See, Media Coordinator

Great Article about John's history at LES and this Archive Project. (opens in new tab)
